This is a series of slideshows about German nuns - its all in German so I have no idea what they are saying but this makes it interesting in terms of analysing the craft. Very good use of undercut nat sound and integration of audio.

Another long one. I don’t usually like narration focused slideshows but the script and delivery of this one is very good and it has good integration of nat sound and translated interviews. (Another POYI winner)

This is a brilliant use of split screens telling two interlocked stories. Great work it recently won a Pictures of the Year Award as best multimedia feature for Amanda Lucier & Ross Taylor of the Virginian Pilot. It is part of a strong five part series on a NATO hospital in Kandahar

Separation is nothing new for Dave and his wife, Tammy, but this is their first time apart as parents. Sydney, his daughter, is often on his mind. Dancing to provide by Elizabeth Wilson from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism is a fantastic story of a very forthright woman who talks about taking up work as a stripper to provide for her two young children. The interview is fantastic and put together very well but the images are of variable quality and let the piece overall down a bit. But it is still a powerful piece because of the quality of the story itself and because of the voice of Britney Barksdale.

Ancient Musqueam language revived through hip hop from Natalie Dobbin and Kendall Walters at Canada’s UBC won a Canadian online publishing award.It is a great story and a good example of how the dynamic qualities of an audio slideshow add dimension to issues raised in the feature. The written feature describes the situation of the Musqueam people and their language while the slideshow gives a very personalised account.

This is a great story from Claudia Janke on a youth boat trip. I would have cut it back to under 3 mins and introduced the voices of the young people earlier. She has a lot of characters and utilises a very smile structure where she asks them all what the best thing about the trip was and what the worst thing is.

This is a superbly crafted story combining the narrative voices of two friends and their experience going duck hunting. Notice the sound image synch as the gun goes off at about 1.08. Also notice how the voice of the instructor is used as nat sound but not introduced as a character.

This portrait of triathlete by Rebecca Marshall, Chrissie Wellington: portrait of a record breaker, recently won a prize in the NPPA Multimedia contest and it is a terrific example of the genre.

It is beautifully paced, it includes great natural sound and the audio quality is excellent. The photographs are also excellent concentrating on a consistent style of punchy colour and a good mix of distance and details.

This is a great example of the use of historic photos and audio....

This slideshow is an example of when less is more - it is very engaging but it is only just over a minute long. It relies on the audio and the story - the sense of humour in Carson’s voice. The images are simple mix of portraits and domestic detail shots.
